At the end of the 1950s, Dr Thomas Hendrickson was looking for a system for measuring behaviour at work. Because such a system didn’t exist, he developed his own Personal Profile Analysis (PPA) Based on Marston’s DISC theory. The factors that constitute the DISC:
Marston described four different types of behaviours, namely:
1. Task-oriented
2. Customer-oriented
3. Outward-oriented
4. Introspective
These ways of acting always relate to the following problems:
1. Does someone see themselves as being stronger than their environment?
2. Does someone find their environment favourable?
The answer to those two questions depends on the person’s environment/working environment, but also on the strength of the person him/herself.
A mixture of the four behaviours exists in everyone which may differ, depending on the situation and the environment.
These behaviours are not rated negatively, but are only described as an attitude.
Each profile can be successful in a particular position, but a particular profile may not be in keeping with a particular position.
Out of the four measured traits below, Thomas International’s PPA may give you an idea of the dominant attitude in a specific environment or circumstance.
Dominance
Influence
Stability
Conformity
The first letters of these traits together form the word DISC.
